We’re an independent repair shop. We replace batteries on MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models from 2015 to the latest M5 machines, plus the 12-inch MacBook. It’s free to ask for a quote on WhatsApp. Send the model name from Apple menu > About This Mac, and the battery health and cycle count if you can. We’ll reply with the options.

Signs your MacBook battery needs replacing

  • “Service Recommended” in Battery settings. macOS shows this when the battery holds less charge than it did new. See what “Service Recommended” means.
  • Short battery life. A full charge lasts a fraction of what it used to, even with light use.
  • Sudden shutdowns. The MacBook turns off at 20% or 30%, or as soon as you unplug it.
  • A high cycle count. Apple designs most MacBook batteries from 2016 on, including all Apple silicon models, for 1,000 cycles.
  • A swollen battery. The trackpad gets hard to click, the base rocks on a flat table, or the bottom case starts to lift.

Swollen battery? Stop charging it

Unplug the MacBook, stop using it and don’t press on the case. A swollen lithium battery is a safety risk. Bring it in as soon as you can. Read more about a swollen laptop battery.

MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro batteries

How the battery is fixed in changes the work involved.

  • Older MacBook Air. The 11 and 13-inch MacBook Air (Early 2015) and the 13-inch MacBook Air (2017) hold the battery in with screws. This is one of the simpler MacBook battery jobs.
  • Newer MacBook Air. From the Retina 13-inch MacBook Air (2018) on, through the M1, M2, M3, M4 and M5 models in 13 and 15-inch sizes, the battery cells are glued in. They need careful removal.
  • MacBook Pro. Every MacBook Pro we see, from the Retina 13 and 15-inch (2015) to the 14 and 16-inch M-series models, has a glued-in battery. On the 2016 to 2020 Intel models, many with a Touch Bar, the cells sit under the keyboard area, so access takes longer.
  • 12-inch MacBook. The 2015, 2016 and 2017 models also use glued cells in a very tight case.

What we do

Check it is the battery

We read the battery health and cycle count, and test the charger and port. A charging fault can look like a dead battery.

Remove the old cells safely

Glued cells come out slowly and carefully. Rushing can damage a cell or the case.

Fit and test

We fit the new battery, charge it and check that macOS reads it properly before you collect.

Swollen batteries

We check the trackpad, case and nearby parts. A swollen battery can bend them.

Your data stays put

A battery replacement doesn’t touch your storage. Your files and settings normally stay as they are.

Other faults

If we find a second problem, such as a worn charging port, we tell you before doing anything else.

What affects the cost

We don’t list a fixed battery price, because MacBook models differ a lot. The main things that change the quote:

  • Your model. A screwed-in battery on an older Air is a different job from glued cells on a 16-inch MacBook Pro.
  • Swelling. If a swollen battery has bent the trackpad or case, those may need attention too.
  • Part availability. Batteries for the newest models can be harder to find.

Send us your model and cycle count on WhatsApp for a quote.

Parts and warranty

3-month warranty, OEM parts with original quality. We fit OEM batteries matched to your MacBook model and test each one before you collect.

Before you bring it in

  • Back up. If the MacBook still turns on, run Time Machine or check iCloud has synced. See 3-2-1 backup.
  • Activation Lock. If Find My is on, the MacBook is tied to an Apple Account. We need you, or the account owner, on hand if the Mac asks for it. We don’t bypass Activation Lock.
  • Company MacBooks. If the Mac is managed through MDM, check with your IT team first. See MacBook repair for more on company Macs.

Still under AppleCare? Check with Apple first

If your MacBook is under Apple’s one-year limited warranty or an active AppleCare plan, check with Apple before you book any repair. The fault may be covered, and an independent repair could affect that cover. See Apple’s Mac laptop repair page. If the cover has ended, or the damage isn’t covered, we’re happy to help.

Questions people ask

How do I check my MacBook battery health?

Go to Apple menu > System Settings > Battery and look at Battery Health. For the cycle count, hold Option, click the Apple menu, choose System Information, then Power.

My MacBook stops charging at 80%. Is the battery faulty?

Usually not. Optimised Battery Charging can pause charging at about 80% to protect the battery. If it never goes past a lower level, or the percentage jumps around, send us a message.

Will I lose my data?

No. A battery replacement doesn’t touch the storage. A backup is still wise before any repair.

Is it worth replacing the battery on an older MacBook?

Often, yes. A new battery is usually far cheaper than a new MacBook. If the Mac can’t run the macOS version you need, it may be time to replace it instead. Businesses can see IT procurement.
