Screen
Cracks, lines, flicker, dark patches or no picture at all.
Battery
Short battery life, sudden shutdowns, a swollen battery or a “Service Recommended” warning.
Keyboard
Keys that stick, repeat or don’t respond, or a keyboard hit by a spill.
Motherboard & liquid damage
No power, no picture, random restarts or a spill. We check the logic board first.
Charging port
Won’t charge, charges only at one angle, or the charger feels loose.
Fan & overheating
Loud fans, a hot base or a MacBook that slows down under load.
Signs your MacBook needs attention
- A battery warning. macOS shows “Service Recommended” in Battery settings when the battery has worn down.
- A swollen battery. The trackpad stops clicking, the base rocks on a flat table, or the case starts to lift. Stop charging and see our note on swollen batteries.
- Screen problems when you move the lid. Flicker or a dark screen at certain angles often points to a worn display flex cable, not the panel.
- Keys that stick or repeat. This is common on MacBooks with the butterfly keyboard.
- A spill. Switch it off, unplug it and don’t try to charge it. Read why liquid damage gets worse over time.
Apple Silicon vs Intel: what it means for repairs
Most MacBooks released from late 2020 onwards use Apple Silicon chips such as the M1, M2, M3 and M4. Many Intel MacBooks from before then use Apple’s T2 chip. On both, the storage is soldered to the logic board and encrypted. You can’t simply pull the drive out if the board fails.
Screen, battery and keyboard repairs don’t touch your storage. Board repairs can. Either way, back up first if your MacBook still turns on. Time Machine or iCloud is fine.
Company MacBooks
Work MacBooks need a little more care before a repair. Check these with your IT team first:
- Activation Lock. If Find My is on, we need it switched off or the account owner on hand. We don’t bypass it.
- MDM. If the MacBook is managed, your admin may need to approve a wipe or a re-enrolment after the repair.
- Zero-touch deployment. If the MacBook is set up through Apple Business Manager, it will re-enrol itself after a reset. That’s normal.
- Backups. Make sure work files are synced or backed up. See 3-2-1 backup.

Under warranty or AppleCare?
Check with Apple first. Apple’s one-year limited warranty covers manufacturing faults, and an active AppleCare plan can cover more. You can get help at a Genius Bar or an Apple Authorised Service Provider, or use Apple’s mail-in service. See Apple’s Mac laptop repair page. Questions people ask
Should I repair or replace my MacBook?
As a rough guide, if the repair costs more than about half the price of a suitable replacement, or the MacBook can’t run the macOS version you need, replacing it usually makes more sense. We’ll tell you honestly. Businesses can also see IT procurement.
Will I lose my data?
Screen, battery, keyboard, fan and charging port repairs don’t touch your storage, so your files normally stay as they are. Board repairs carry more risk. Because the storage is soldered on modern MacBooks, back up before you bring it in if you can.
How long will it take?
It depends on the repair and on part availability. Send us the model and the problem on WhatsApp and we’ll give you an idea before you come in.
Can you fix liquid damage?
Often, yes, but it depends on what the liquid reached and how long it sat there. Switch the MacBook off, don’t charge it, and bring it in as soon as you can. Don’t put it in rice or use a hair dryer.
