MacBook won’t turn on, shows no picture, or died after a spill? We diagnose and repair MacBook Air and MacBook Pro logic boards (motherboards) at our Bugis store, and we look at repairing the board before replacing it.

We’re an independent repair shop. We repair logic boards on Intel and Apple silicon MacBooks, from the 2015 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro to the latest M-series models. It’s free to ask for a quote on WhatsApp. Send the model name from Apple menu > About This Mac if you know it, what happened just before it stopped working, and what you see when you press the power button.

Signs of a MacBook logic board fault

  • No power at all with a known-good charger. No Apple logo, no keyboard light.
  • Power but no picture. You hear it start, or the keyboard lights, but the screen and an external display stay dark.
  • Restarts and kernel panics that keep coming back after a clean macOS install.
  • Not charging with a good charger and a clean port. This can be a charging circuit on the board.
  • After a spill. Liquid causes corrosion that spreads over days. See liquid damage.

Intel, T2 and Apple silicon: why it matters

On most modern MacBooks, your data lives on the logic board. That changes how we approach a board repair.

  • Apple silicon (M1 to M5). Every MacBook Air from the M1 (2020) and every MacBook Pro from the 13-inch M1 (2020) on has its storage soldered to the board and encrypted. See Apple silicon.
  • Intel with a T2 chip. MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models introduced from 2018 to 2020 use a T2 chip. The SSD is soldered on and tied to that board.
  • Older Intel models. Some older MacBooks, such as the 2015 MacBook Air and Retina MacBook Pro (2015), have a removable SSD, which makes data recovery easier.

On soldered-storage MacBooks, a replacement board starts empty. The only way back to the files on a failed board is to repair that same board. That’s why we try to repair first.

What we do

Rule out the simple things

We test the charger, battery, display and port first. Many “dead board” faults turn out to be something smaller.

Board-level repair

Where we can, we replace the failed part on the board rather than the whole board. Read how chip-level repair works.

Spills and corrosion

We clean corrosion and repair damaged areas after liquid gets inside.

Data first

Tell us if the files matter. We plan the repair around getting the board running again.

Replacement boards

If a board can’t be repaired, or a repair isn’t worth it, we’ll tell you and quote for a replacement where one is available.

Charging circuits

If the problem started at the port, see MacBook charging port repair.

What affects the cost

We don’t publish a fixed price for logic board repair. Two MacBooks with the same symptom can need very different work.

  • Where the fault is. One failed part in a power circuit is a different job from corrosion across the board.
  • Your model. Board layouts and parts vary between Intel, T2 and Apple silicon MacBooks.
  • Spills and earlier repairs. Corrosion, or earlier attempts to fix the board, add work and risk.

Send us your model on WhatsApp for a quote. A photo of the label under the MacBook helps.

Parts and warranty

3-month warranty, OEM parts with original quality. Where a part or board needs replacing, we use OEM parts matched to your model.

Before you bring it in

  • Back up. If the MacBook still turns on, run Time Machine or check iCloud has synced. See 3-2-1 backup.
  • Activation Lock. If Find My is on, the MacBook is tied to an Apple Account. We need you, or the account owner, on hand if the Mac asks for it. We don’t bypass Activation Lock.
  • Company MacBooks. If the Mac is managed through MDM, check with your IT team first. See MacBook repair for more on company Macs.
  • After a board repair. The MacBook may ask for the Apple Account password when it starts up. Make sure you know it.

Still under AppleCare? Check with Apple first

If your MacBook is under Apple’s one-year limited warranty or an active AppleCare plan, check with Apple before you book any repair. The fault may be covered, and an independent repair could affect that cover. See Apple’s Mac laptop repair page. If the cover has ended, or the damage isn’t covered, we’re happy to help.

Questions people ask

Can a MacBook logic board be repaired, or does it need replacing?

Often it can be repaired. Many faults come from one failed part. If the damage is too wide, or the repair isn’t worth it for the MacBook’s age, we’ll say so before you spend anything.

My MacBook won’t turn on. Is it the logic board?

Not always. Try a known-good charger of the right wattage first. On Intel MacBooks, an SMC reset can help. See how to reset the SMC and NVRAM and tips to fix a dead MacBook Pro.

Will I lose my data?

Board repairs carry more risk than most repairs. If the MacBook still turns on, back up first. If it doesn’t, tell us the files matter and we’ll plan around them. Data recovery is never guaranteed.

Can you fix a MacBook after a spill?

Often, yes, but it depends on what the liquid reached and how long it sat there. Switch it off, don’t charge it, and bring it in soon. Don’t put it in rice or use a hair dryer.
