We’re an independent repair shop. We fix charging and power faults on Windows laptops from all the main brands. It’s free to ask for a quote on WhatsApp. Tell us the model, what the charging light does and whether you’ve tried another charger, and we’ll tell you what we think.

Signs of a charging port or power fault

  • The charger feels loose or only charges when you hold the plug at an angle.
  • The charging light flickers or goes on and off when you move the cable.
  • “Plugged in, not charging” and the percentage doesn’t go up.
  • No power at all. No lights, no fan and nothing on screen, even on the charger.
  • A burning smell or heat at the port. Unplug it and stop using it.
  • The port is bent, damaged or loose after the laptop was dropped or the cable was yanked.

What we do

“Laptop not charging” has several possible causes, and the port is only one of them. We work through them in order, from the cheapest to the most involved, and give you a quote before any repair.

1. Charger & cable

We test with a known-good charger. A faulty adapter or frayed cable is a common cause and the cheapest fix.

2. Port & DC jack

We check the port for dirt, bent pins and looseness. A DC jack on a cable can often be swapped. A soldered port needs more work.

3. USB-C charging

USB-C laptops need a charger and cable rated for enough power. We check the charger, the cable and the port itself.

4. Battery

A worn-out battery can stop charging. See laptop battery replacement.

5. Board-level faults

If the charging circuit on the motherboard has failed, we look at repairing it at component level. See chip-level repair.

6. Liquid & corrosion

Spills often cause power faults weeks later. See liquid damage.

Laptop not charging? Try these first

  • Try a different wall socket, and another charger of the right wattage if you have one.
  • Check the cable for kinks, fraying or a bent tip.
  • Look into the port with a torch. Gently remove fluff with a wooden toothpick, never metal. See how to clean USB ports.
  • Check the maker’s app for a battery-care setting that stops charging at around 80%.
  • If it still won’t charge, stop forcing the plug in. That can turn a loose port into a broken one.

What affects the cost

We don’t publish a fixed price for charging port repair, because the cause varies so much. The quote depends on:

  • Where the fault is. A charger, a cabled DC jack, a soldered port and a board fault are very different jobs.
  • Your model. Some ports sit on a small separate board. Others are soldered to the motherboard.
  • Part availability and whether liquid or a drop has caused other damage.

Send us your model on WhatsApp for a quote. A photo of the problem and the label under the laptop help us reply faster.

Business laptops & fleets

On company laptops, a charging fault often turns out to be a lost or swapped charger of the wrong wattage. Check that first. If the fault is on the board, data matters: a board repair keeps the original storage in place where possible. Check warranty status first (see next business day warranty), and have the BitLocker recovery key ready, as board work can trigger it. For whole fleets, see managed IT services.

Brand pages cover the series we see and the other repairs we do on each one.

Charging port and power repairs by model

MacBook?

For MacBooks, see MacBook charging port repair, covering MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Older and newer MacBooks also use MagSafe.

Still under manufacturer warranty?

Check with the manufacturer or your reseller first. If the laptop is still covered, the repair may cost you nothing, and an independent repair could affect that cover. Company laptops often come with onsite cover, so see next business day warranty and check the service tag or serial number on the maker’s support site. If the warranty has ended, or the damage isn’t covered, we’re happy to help.

Questions people ask

How do I know if it’s the charger or the laptop?

Try a known-good charger of the right wattage. If the laptop charges with it, the old charger or cable is the problem. If it doesn’t, the fault is likely in the port, the battery or the board.

Can a loose charging port be fixed without replacing the motherboard?

Often, yes. On many laptops the DC jack is on a cable or a small board and can be swapped. If the port is soldered to the motherboard, we look at replacing just the port first.

Will I lose my data?

Port and battery repairs don’t touch your storage. Board repairs carry more risk. If the laptop still turns on, back up first. See 3-2-1 backup.
